Too Much Computer?

Check out my profile pic. Zounds, it's that camera hogging squirrel whose picture with a couple up in Canada went viral a week or so ago. I've been "squirrelizing" various photos from my blog and e-mailing them to friends and family. My sister-in-law e-mailed me back, "They might be sending you away sooner than you think."

What, can't a guy have a little fun on the internet? Apparently not. I've been obsessed lately with doing mock drafts on Yahoo and ESPN, practicing for my family's fantasy football official draft in about a week. When I told my brother who called from South Dakota recently, his response was, "You need to get a life."

Hea, if I enjoy it and I'm not hurting anybody, so what? I know my wife is concerned that my eye doctor is going to say 'no more computer' some day (except for work, she adds quickly). Well, when that day comes . . .

I did try to tackle the leaky sink again this past weekend, but this plumbing project is not going down easy. Too bad they don't have fantasy plumbing. I'd do better at that as I don't do so good in reality. After plastering a healthy dose of plumber's epoxy on the leaky joint, it still dripped. But I tied a strip of cloth over that, and like a bandaid on a bleeding finger, that seemed to do the trick. I'm a whatever works kind of guy when it comes to home repair.

My fathers and my two brothers are much more handy in that regard. But do they have a blog like I do? Ha. Touche.

We had our annual yard sale this past weekend. As long as Wendy and her sister make enough profit to pay for subs from Izzy's in Ann Arbor for lunch, it's a success. That's one measure anyway. We sold two of the boys' old video game systems.

Their original video games sytem, THE original Nintendo, is still in our house. For now anyway. I've been trying to see if I could get it to work at all if just for nostalgia's sake. It reminds me of the days when my video game skills were better than the kids'. Back then, even Wendy would play occasionally. She called herself 'The Tetris Queen.'

After a lot of coaxing and cleaning, I was able to still play Tetris on our original Nintendo, though the picture quality was very poor and the game would only function for a few minutes before the screen went blank. All that work for just a few minutes of memories. Maybe the missus will note that at least I wasn't on the computer.

Do you have Pong on that old Ninteno? I remember when we thought that was soooo cool! Tetris was way uptown!

And on the leaky bathroom pipe, I get that. We had one of those that my hub could never get fixed. It was down to a v.e.r.y slow drip, so we put an old cup under it and it remained that way till I sold the house. At that time I detected no moisture in the cup so I removed it and signed those papers! Shhh.

I understand that plumbers have a language all their own. At least that's what Don tells me.

I was just terrible at Tetris, and spent a lot of time improving my skills. It just didn't come easily to me

And I love your blog.

I hope your yard sale was successful. I am planting seeds in hubby's head that we should have a yard sale in the spring. We are on a cul-de-sac so maybe we could get three out of the five houses to have a sale at the same time. Why don't you trade some of your computer whiz stuff with your relatives who are good with plumbing? You teach them to blog and they do the plumbing jobs at your house?

I never played Tetris on Nintendo, but spent hours playing on the computer. I was pretty good at it too.

I hate plumbing problems, but I hate more having to pay some guy $100 just to get in his car and come to my house. I've learned to do a lot of simple pumbing chores just because I'm cheap.

LYNILU--Pong? No. That one goes way back though. I think we had a version of that on some old game system when I was a kid, about 20 years before Nintendo.

DAD--It's my profile picture, right up in the left hand corner where it says "Big Dave's Blog." Next to me on my tricycle.

CASSIE--Plumbing gives me a language all of my own, but it'd be better if you covered your ears first.

ANONYMOUS (One of my boys)--Do you have an "I saved the princess" patch from the first Mario Nintendo game? I do. Heh, heh.

TECHNOBABE--That sounds like an idea. Hea dad, I can show you where to find that squirrel on my blog--heck, even where to get a squirrel of your own--if you replace the drain trap under our laundry tub. After three trips to the hardware store, it's no better.

NANKIN--A hundred dollars for a plumber is cheap in my parts. For $100, they'll tell me how much more it's going to cost.

ooohh Tetris, I loved that game when the kids had nintendo. haven't thought about it in years.

thanks for bringing it up.

I love the squirrel and the blog Dave.

I hear Wendy though-Steve's always wondering how I can still see after my days on the computer!

I just love that camera hogging squirrel. Is he really a squirrel, though? He looks different from the squirrels I'm familiar with. To me he appears to be a squirrel/chipmunk hybrid.

Fantasy plumbing is common in my house. I've become quite good at it.

I'm sorry not to have known about your yard sale- it would have been worth a drive up to the forbidden state. The Child is a vintage video game fanatic- I think he would have fainted at the sight of your offerings.

Hugs,
Betty

CARINE--I have an eye doctor appointment in less than a week. So if I sudden drop out of cyberspace, you'll know why.

BETTY--He is a particular type of squirrel fairly common in that part of Canada. They probably said exactly which species but I don't remember. Cute guy though.

We actually sold those video game systems pretty quickly. That surprised me because they were missing cords and all.

CAROLDEE--I'm not a big fan of Vista ever since I bought my new computer. My computer is all screwed up in that I can't load most of my programs normally. But since I use my computer mainly to blog, that doesn't require much.

Hi Dave ~~ I am with Lucy about playing games and Nintendos are a
mystery to me. I like your squirrelizing and noticed it on your blog photo. Whatever makes you happy and doesn't hurt anyone, why not. I hope your eye doctor never says, no more computers. I hope your Yard sale went well and cleared a few things away. Thanks for your comments on the Dog Angel, and you sure would miss your Doogie who died.
The dogs versus cats was funny, but true. Take care, my friend.
Regards, Merle.
